The Whiskey Gulch Trial ~ Round 3 & 4 / June 10-11 2023
A "Section" of Heaven
Buried deep in the mountains between Butte and Whitehall, there lies a private and secluded trials riding heaven that has been host to the annual Whiskey Gulch Trial for more than a decade. The clean forest floor, riddled with mountainous boulders, shaded by mature trees, and divided only by a few friendly streams, will have you captivated the moment you set foot on property. The magic of your most memorable ride lay dormant in this valley, come "clean" your mind for a weekend and experience why the Fortin family calls this place home.
After leaving the pavement of Hyw 2, prepare for an adventurous drive through the mountains aided by the strategically placed ribbons at each split in the road. Enjoy the journey until you ultimately pass through an open gate welcoming you to the Whiskey Gulch Trial. Plentiful dry camping exists, ample porta-cilities, and a friendly atmosphere can all be found nestled in an open valley just down stream from the ranch headquarters. You will find more specific and descriptive driving directions here as the date for this historical event nears.
Two Day Event
The Whiskey Gulch Trial is a two day event that is packed full of details and entertainment.
- Round 4 of the CTW Moto Trials Series
- Round 3 and 4 of the Montana Motorcycle Trials Championship.
- Potluck dinner Saturday evening BBQ chicken - bring a dish to share if you can.
- ROCKIN Cs is back with excellent coffee and breakfast/lunch!
- First ever IRON MAN event
- Team event on Saturday

- Signup: Sat. - 8:30 to 9:30 Sun. - 8:00 to 8:45 (or online)
- Riders Meeting: Sat. - 9:45 Sun. - 8:45
- Riding Starts: Sat. - 10:00 Sun. - 9:00
- The gates to Whiskey Gulch DO NOT open until Friday June 9th at 8:00am (no admittance before this time)
Saturday provides 10 unique sections, each with local section checkers. The morning will host half the field of competitors while the other half cheers them on. A similar format hosting the remaining field of riders will transpire in the afternoon.
Sunday will see all new sections and a similar format. Weather, timing, rider numbers and event staffing can play into event format alterations.
Historic Event Details
The first Whiskey Gulch Trial was established back in 2009, making this years event the 15th annual!!
While this experience has often coincided with Fathers Day weekend, due to its growth and popularity it has recently seen some timing shifts to accommodate the schedules of other similar events. One of the contributing factors, and welcomed enhancements, has been the collaboration with the "Conquer the West Trials Series". The Whiskey Gulch Trial is the 4th of 10 stops along the 2023 CTW schedule.
The collaboration with CTW has elevated the level of competition, grown the depth of each class, and facilitates us the opportunity to meet so many new riders from all across the United States.
